Opportunities at RCSCC Centurion

Cadet Band

Cadets can choose to participate in the band where they can practice any instruments found in a military band setting. They learn challenging marches, instrumental pieces, and even Christmas songs as they work towards different parades and competitions throughout the year.

Drill Team

Cadets can choose to participate in the drill team. They will be taught how to march, follow commands, and prepare for the Regional Cadet Competition. This includes drill with arms. As they continue through cadets they will be taught how to command a division with voice commands and may even learn how to do sword and flag drill.

Marksmanship

Cadets will have the opportunity to learn how to handle and shoot an air rifle. They will be taught the parts of the rifle, the prone position, and the basic requirements and techniques for using the rifle. If they enjoy this, they may choose to participate in the marksmanship team where they can learn more advanced techniques and positions.

Sailing

Cadets will learn many things associated with sailing over the years. They will be taught how to set up sailing equipment, how to rig a sail, the knots used during sailing, and the basic ways of how to sail. If they enjoy this they can enter in a sailing regatta and compete with other sea cadets within the region.

Orienteering Team

Cadets can choose to participate in the orienteering team. They will be taught the techniques of running, navigation, and using a map and compass. They will be able to participate in Cadet Orienteering Competitions where they can compete in teams and individually with cadets in their region.

Biathlon Team

Cadets can choose to participate in the biathlon team. They will be taught cross-country skiing, marksmanship, and regulation of breathing in between the two activities. They will then train for the Cadet Biathlon Competition with these techniques.

Seamanship Weekends

Cadets will learn many things associated with historic naval seamanship aboard a naval ship. A couple times a year, seamanship weekends are hosted at RCSCC Centurion and other cadet corps in the region. These weekends include learning about naval knots, gyn or shears, the phonetic alphabet and even whaler sailing.

Ceremonies and Parades

Cadets will be able to participate in many different ceremonies and parades. Some examples are the Battle of the Atlantic Ceremonial Parade, various Remembrance day ceremonies and parades, holiday parades, and the annual holiday mess dinner.

Deployments and Exchanges

Cadets over the age of sixteen may be able to participate in various deployments and exchanges. These trips can range from living on a tall ship for a week to living on a naval ship for up to two weeks. They are in many locations around the world including Nova Scotia, British Colombia, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and even Australia.Â
